Current trends in biostatistics applied to nutritional epidemiology

Dr. Cristian Ricci, post doctoral researcher at Pediatric Epidemiology, Department of Pediatrics, University Medicine Leipzig, Leipzig, Germany, will visit the University of ParmaSchool of Advanced Studies on Food and Nutrition and Department of Food and Drug – on 12 November 2019.

Dr. Ricci holds an MSc in Biological Sciences (University of Milan, faculty of Sciences) and obtained his PhD in Biomedical statistics in 2009 (University of Milan, Faculty of Medicine).

During the period 2009-2013 he was responsible of the Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology Units of the San Donato Cardiologic Hospital (Milan), Galeazzi Orthopaedic Hospital (Milan) and Santa Maria Nascente Rehabilitation Hospital (Milan).

During the period 2013-2015 he was research fellow at the University of Regensburg (Germany), Department of Epidemiology.

During the period 2015-2017 he was visiting scientist at the Nutrition, Methodology and Biostatistics Department of the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization (France).

He was also a post doctoral researcher at the Centre of Excellence for Nutrition and at the school of Mathematics and Statistics of the North West University (South Africa).

His main research focus on biostatistics and epidemiology methodology applied to nutrition, physical activity and non-communicable diseases. More info can be found here.

  • Substitution and partition models for risk models in nutritional epidemiology
  • Space reduction techniques. Basics and application to data from food frequency questionnaires
  • Power calculation in nutritional epidemiology and the use of standardized effect size
