Award for Best Thesis "Parma UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy”
From the collaboration between the School of Advanced Studies on Food and Nutrition the Foundation Parma UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and with the contribution of “Parma Io Ci Sto!”, in 2024 the award for Best Thesis "Parma UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy" was launched.
The award origionates from the shared objective of the 3 entities to enhance and promote studies, researches and reflections useful for shaping the future of the city of Parma and of the new generations.
As its name suggests, the award is based on the inspiring principles of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, a network created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and between cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. The aim is to make creativity and cultural industries the basis of sustainable development plans, in line with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
Parma and its territory are universally known for their ability to preserve an unparalleled gastronomic heritage, but being a Creative City goes beyond cultural heritage. The Parma UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy project promotes a new model of urban planning through an innovative approach to the themes of identity, creativity and sustainable development.
Having joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2015, Parma is therefore a place where individuals, communities, businesses and institutions have the opportunity, the will and the aptitude to invent and create new ways of operating, becoming a real laboratory where ideas for change can be developed.
Therefore, the award inspired by the Parma UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy project will be awarded to a deserving student of the University of Parma who has written a thesis consistent with the strategic lines and the “macro-themes” of the international context of reference in which Parma UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy operates:

1) FOOD SCIENCE AND FOOD LABS: projects for the regeneration and innovation of the academic world
2) FOOD CULTURE AND LAND DEVELOPMENT: projects to base the territory development and protection on gastronomy and food culture
3) ART MUSIC AND FINE FOOD: projects for the enhancement of the cultural identity of Parma in which creativity is expressed in the fields of art, music and gastronomy
4) BECOME A CITY OF GASTRONOMY: projects of international partnership
5) FOOD & NUTRITION FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH: projects related to the promotion of gastronomy, food education and healthy lifestyles aimed at children and young people
6) FOOD FOR FUTURE FOOD FOR GROWTH: projects related to decentralised cooperation with underrepresented and disadvantaged areas.
